[REVIEW] Innisfree Jelly Tint #3 Orchid Lavender and #4 Sour Grapefruit

Sunday, February 28, 2016
One of the main reviews I started blogging was to provide useful information to shoppers and beauty enthusiasts out there. As someone who rarely buys anything cosmetics without reading about it first, it's only right that I contribute back to this community.  As a beauty blogger, writing reviews on products is something I love, lovelove doing. However, there are quite a few occasions where I have to bring myself to write honest, bad reviews on things I didn't enjoy and this is one of those products.

I'm the type of person who will apply on makeup and not look in the mirror for the next 5 hours. Now do you see why I need smudge proof liner and lasting lip products? I cannot be trusted nor have the patience to deal with things that are high maintenance. This is why I avoid bold lipsticks. However, bold lip tints that lock and stay in place? I need those. Lip tints are probably one of my favourite types of makeup. Today, I am reviewing the Innisfree Jelly tints. I must be on a lippie kick these days because I'm accumulating more lip products than I can ever use. These guys come in tiny sizes of 3ml for 6 000 Won (around $6 USD).

The two colours I picked up are #3 Orchid Lavender and #4 Sour Grapefruit.

#3 Orchid Lavender - this isn't very pigmented and wears better as a gloss with a slight bit of colour

#4 Sour Grapefruit - this is much more pigmented and opaque than #3. It's a very warm, wearable red.

If you look closely, the shimmers in #4 (top) are very visible. #3 (bottom) swatches like it's got a bit of colour but on girls with pigmented lips, it's not really going to show up at all.

TEXTURE
These have a very slippery liquid thin feel to them. It spreads easily because of it's liquid consistency and doesn't tug nor patch up.

SCENT
Fake, lemony dishwasher soap scent.

PERFORMANCE
The performance of this product varies from colour to colour. #3 was very light, not opaque and definitely did not leave any tint behind. #4 was more opaque, more difficult to control and the shimmers it left behind was much more visible. For tints, these certainly don't last very long. I'd say it's on for around 2-3 hours before disappearing. They rubbed off easily onto cups.  Both colours had the same slick, slippery feel and the over powering lemon dishwasher soap scent. While these were on, they felt pretty moisturizing and nice. However the moisture doesn't sink into the lips and when they wore off, my lips felt a tad dry.

I like to use #3 when I just need a quick gloss of colour because that's what it reminds me of - a light slick gloss with just a teeny hint of colour. The gloss doesn't make my lips look greasy nor oily, just shiny. #4 isn't really my colour because of it's warmth so I don't reach of it often. Not to mention, I'm not fond of the very visible shimmer it leaves behind when the gloss wears off. It just looks like I've got glittery bits on dry lips.

OVERALL
I don't usually dislike Innisfree products but I'd say give these a skip. They're not long-lasting, moisturizing, nor pigmented. The pigmentation, performance of the colours differ from colour to colour so it's rather unpredictable. There are tons of tints out in the market that are better.

[REVIEW] Aritaum Honey Melting Tint: #4 Raspberry Cake, #5 Apple Tart, #S14 Pink Lemonade, # S16 Lady Dessert

Wednesday, June 18, 2014

For something that is so highly hyped up in the Korean beauty community, I'm really surprised that there aren't many reviews here in the English Korean beauty community. I'm a big fan of the Aritaum lip collections - loved their Wannabe Cushion Tints, World Glam Coating Tints, and Pudding Tints but the Honey Melting Tint never really appealed to me. I've swatched them a quite a few times in stores and they always seem kind of thick and sticky. Not to mention, a majority of the ten colors were orangey. Most koreans have warm skin tones so corals and oranges look absolutely beautiful on them. However, I'm more of a cool tone girl and bright pinks look best on me. Orangey corals and orange tend to make my skin look dull. I do like pink based corals though. Those are okay.  I remember this one time back in my early college days when I put on this orangey red lipstick from Revlon and taking tons of selfies with it. At the time I thought I looked amazing but looking back now, I cringe every time I see those photos and hesitate everytime I see an orangey red lipstick.  I made an exception for the 3CE Kitsch Biker lipstick (review here).

There are originally ten colors for the Honey Melting Tint line. Recently, Aritaum released six new summer colors and I couldn't resist anymore so I picked up two of them during the 1 + 1 sale to see where this hype comes from. I went in stores and in my beauty maniac mode - swatched like eight colors on my arms. Out of the eight colors I chose, I picked up S14 Pink Lemonade, S16 Lady Dessert, and #5 Apple Tart. I LOVE the summer names. They're so fun!

I've been meaning to upload this post last week, but I've been so busy with work. Plus, some of the pictures didn't turn out right and the on and off rainstorms made it hard to find good lighting.

Performance
I always get this strong impatient and excited feeling whenever I buy a new product. It's absolutely torture for me to wait 'til I get home, take some pictures of the packaging, and then try it. Sometimes, this feeling is so strong that I would buy something and rush into the nearest bathroom to put it on. Which is what happened in this case. Totally a bad idea since the washrooms in Korea almost NEVER have proper lighting. What's with all this dim lighting?! This product fooled me with its balm looking package. I was completely NOT prepare for this level of pigmentation. Many people said this has the pigmentation of a lipstick, but I didn't believe it til now. If you think you can just slap this on without proper lighting - think again. Not only is it highly pigmented, it actually has quite a resistant texture. It dragged against my lips when I tried to put it on like a lip balm and the outcome was one hot mess. It picked up on the dry bits on my lips because I didn't exfoliate and it felt quite thick and a little bit sticky. It also started to feel a little bit tight like it was clinging onto my lips.

However, this product is not all bad. After I played around with it a little bit at home, I think I know how to make it work. The trick to this lip tint is to dab it on not drag/swipe it on. When you dab it on, the product applies lightly thus creating a thin but pigmented layer. Also, you can do a beautiful gradiation with some lip concealer. It does start to feel a little bit dry after application. You need to exfoliate and apply a lip balm before hand as well so the product won't catch onto any dry bits. It also slides on like a breeze when you've got oily base of a lip balm on first. Although it will still feel just a bit sticky, by dabbing it on, the stickiness will be hardly noticeable.

The wear time on this is pretty good. I'd say it ususally stays on my lips until I eat. After eating, I usually find a stain left behind. Sometimes, that stain is especially noticeable around the dry cracks and lines of my lips. Also, if you apply a heavy layer, a bit of the product tend to build up in the inner rim of  your lips so make sure you be careful of that.

One thing to be extremely careful of is to not leave this in a warm area for too long. I've seen these melt pretty badly in stores.

No. 4 Raspberry Cake: this is a beautiful red with slight pink undertones.

No. 5 Apple Tart - regular line. This is a beautiful classic red. It's perfect for gradation purposes but on its own, it's quite a stand out color. It's very similar to Raspberry Cake but with an orange undertone.

No. S14 Pink Lemonade. I love this color. It's bold and it's bright. It's similar to No. 3 Strawberry Chips but this has a cooler undertone.

* I didn't notice the dry bits until after I uploaded the pictures.

No. S16 Lady Dessert. This was the color I was most excited about and it does not disappoint. Truely lovely coral with a hint of pink.

Gradation with  #5 Apple Tart

The Good
- beautiful colors
- highly pigmented
- relatively long lasting
- leaves a beautiful tint (for the brighter colors)
- affordable
- doesn't feather
- has a beautiful gloss

The Bad
- you can easily apply too much product
- it can catch onto dry bits
- transfers a bit onto cups
- you can definitely feel like you're wearing something
- can melt in warm areas.
- build up in the inner rim of the lips

Overall: While I say this product is over hyped (they're really nice but I wouldn't say they are a must-have), they are to be admired for their beautiful colors and great pigmentation.  In my beauty hoarder mode, I've gone back and picked up a few more (of the same colors - the act of a true hoarder).

Edit: I've recently purchased #3 in Strawberry Chip. If you'd like to see my swatches, please click here: Strawberry Chip.

Aritaum World Glam Coating Tint in #10 London Review

Thursday, January 9, 2014

I picked up two World Glam Coating Tint from Aritaum.  I love how they have city names on them. It makes me extra fond of them. I picked up Seoul - just because I am living here at the moment and London - I've wanted to visit London ever since I read Harry Potter. If they ever make a Toronto, I'd definitely pick it up as well.

Today I'm only reviewing London.

They retail for 9 000 Won for 9ml.

Aritaum World Glam Coating Tint is offered in 10 colors - ranging from pinks to corals to reds. This promotional picture isn't really true to color so I highly recommend you to look up some blogs for swatches before making a purchase.

Initial Impression: When I first put this product on my lips I wasn't sure if I liked it. It had this weird feeling. I get the same feeling when I get cleanising oil on my lips which I don't really like. It went on smoothly and was pretty opaque after one coat.  The brush applied just the right amount of product. It felt quite moisturizing and I don't feel the need to put a lip balm on underneath it. It felt like a glossy balm and I was sure that it would wear off and get on my clothing or hair.

However as the day went by, the color remained on my lips. It didn't slip nor slide. I can even reapply it without it bunching up on my lips.

After a few hours and some water and snacks, the initial glossiness finally faded away and left behind a pretty tint that stayed on my lips until removal at the end of the night. The product is quite moisturizing. Not even once throughout the day did I feel the need to put a lip balm on top of it - not even when it was just the tint left.

It has an artificial citrus scent and taste quite sweet - not that I intentionally tasted it.

Performance:
I've worn this lip product everyday since I first got it. I have to say I quite like it. Although I still don't really like the feeling of it on my lips, it doesn't bother me that much anymore. Sometimes I even forget I have it on. It's such a low maintanance product that I just absolutely love it. It gives beautiful color and gloss while still being moisturizing. I don't even need to carry other lip products with me when I'm out.  I absolutely love the fact that it doesn't feather nor get on my teeth. I still have to apply it with a mirror but I don't have to worry about it once it's on. Even when it wears off, I can just reapply it or just leave the super natural matte tint on lips. I've heard that the lighter colors don't really leave much of a tint on and that's quite understandable.

Color:
#10 London is a really wearable pinky-red.  It has a muted undertone so it doesn't really jump out when someone looks at you. Although the color in the pictures are true, it's really doesn't capture the mute quality of this pinky-red. I don't see a lot of muted pink-reds like this so I think it's quite unique. When I don't have time to put on makeup for work, I just swipe this on and it makes me look quite put-together. The product goes on really smoothly and evenly. It definitely has a gloss. That's probably what they meant when they say "coating" tint. The glossiness of it is like a top coat! When you wipe off the initial color and gloss, it leaves behind a tint that won't come off unless you use a makeup remover.

I've seen a number of people doing a gradiation with this product but I haven't master that technique yet. I just swipe it all over my lips.

Applicator:
I like how this comes in a slanted applicator. It makes application really easy and I can get the corners of my mouth with ease. Just the right amount of product comes out.

What I Love About It:
- unique color that is pretty and wearable
- has a glossy finish
- moisturizing
- leaves a nice tint even after wearing off
- doesn't feather
- low maintanence
- inexpensive

What I don't love about it:
- the scent

Score: A+
This my current favorite lip product. Gloss, color, tint, and balm in one? Definitely a must have :) I highly recommend you check it out. It would be amazing if they came out with more colors like they did with the Wannabe Cushion Tints. The colors on the promotional picture doesn't really capture the colors so I'd definitely recommend you to swatch them if you can before buying.
