[REVIEW] BEYOND Alice In Glow Oil Tint

Monday, March 14, 2016

Around last autumn, Beyond released an Alice in Wonderland themed limited edition collection. Although, Alice in Wonderland is one of my favourite fairytales, there wasn't much I wanted to get from the collection. It wasn't until I was looking for dupes of the YSL Oil Tint that I found interest in the Alice in Glow Oil Tints. Review of these is way overdue as it's been around for so long and a Beyond x Alice Season 2 has just been released! You can still find this product around eBay and Korean shopping sites. They retailed for 10 000 Won (~ $10 USD) in Korea.

Isn't the packaging just adorable? The Korean beauty scene is really killing it with their packaging.

If you're not familiar, BEYOND is a brand that focuses on the environment and animals. I recall that a few years ago they had a cute lipstick line where a portion of the revenue was given to a wildlife charity. They're also really well known for their crazy, animal masks.
This pretty much sums up the brand!

There are five colours in this range: #1 Care #2 Orange #3 Pink Red #4 Burgundy #5 Violet

The two colors I chose are #03 Pink Red and #04 Burgundy

CLAIMS

The Card Soldiers are the main theme for these tints - being on the box and on the actual tint tubes. They're so cute!! The tubes themselves are plastic, with a plastic lid. The white area near the top is opaque but the bottom is semi-transparent so you can still see the product inside.

The wand is really similar to the YSL Oil Tints. There's a hole in the centre but excess product is squeezed out when you pull the wand from the tube.

The wand is slightly curved and I find that it really helps give more precision (which is really important!)

SCENT
This has a soft, fruity scent that is unlike anything I've smelled before. It's very distinctive.

#03 PINK RED
When I was looking for reviews, this colour came up the most. For some reason, it tends to give me a natural gradation every time I use it. Despite the outside tube showing a orangey colour, the swatch of this is pink with a bit of red.

#04 BURGUNDY
I really wanted this to be a true burgundy but it actually ended up looking almost exactly the same as #03 Pink Red but with a bit of purple berry.

TINT
The tint that's left behind from both colours are the same. You can see how it's already drying into the lines of my lips.

PERFORMANCE
After hearing all the raves on this product, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. When I finally received it, I put on #4 Burgundy immediately and fell in love with how beautiful, absolutely beautiful it looked. It gave me shine and colour that just made me feel like I've just put 100% more effort into my appearance.

The gloss applies on easily and smoothly. It doesn't feel thick nor sticky. Initially, it honestly doesn't feel like there's anything on my lips. The only way I could tell that I had it on was the shine! Although, it initially applies on rather light and almost clear, the colour intensifies quickly to a brighter colour.  You got to be careful with how you apply this. I've used it like a clear gloss before and went slightly over my lip lines. The results? I looked like a kid who had drank a bowl of Kool Aid - yes a bowl. After the shine wore off, it started to feel drying. It felt like the tint started to really cling tight onto my lips. The shine was probably the oil and it lasts only about 2 hours on me. The tint that is left behind lasts forever - really. I had to scrub my lips with remover to get the remaining tint off at the end of the day. Although the colour is beautiful, I found it to be very drying and lip balm doesn't seem to help.

How does this compare to the Innisfree Lip Treatment? They're both glossy and the packaging looks similar but that's about it. The texture, longevity, colour intensity, hydration are all different.

OVERALL
There are some serious pros and cons to this item. It's very beautiful and the tint effect is amazingly strong and vibrant... but it's also very drying and the colours seem really similar to one another. Personally, I like these. For how pretty they look on and off, the dry lips may be worth the price.

[REVIEW] INNISFREE TREATMENT TINT: Cherry in Honey

Thursday, March 3, 2016
I use to love matte lipsticks and I still love them but lately with the anticipation of spring, I've been really digging the glossy look. Glossy lips reminds me of youth and freshness like gentle warm breezy, sunlight and dewy grass. Can you just tell that I can't wait for spring to roll in?

It has been a long time since I've found something I can truly deem as HG status. Today, I'd like to introduce one of my recent favourites - the Innisfree Treatment Tint in Cherry in Honey! When I first saw this product online, I knew I had to buy it because 1) Innisfree rarely disappoints 2) Treatment + tint? Yes! 3) The packaging reminds of me of the Beyond Alice in Glow Oil Tints (they're actually really different. A review for those ones will be coming up soon).

I have #1 CHERRY IN HONEY.

This product comes in two colours: #1 Cherry in Honey #2 Orange in Honey.

I couldn't find much information about the product and it also didn't come with a box, just a sticker seal with the product name on it.

PRICE
10 000 Won ~ 5mL

TEXTURE
It has a slightly, slightly thick consistency that reminds me of honey.

SCENT
Very light to non-detectable

WAND
This lip treatment has a funny wand that reminds me of a little punching fist. The tip of the wand is small and curved into a C shape. I've never seen this type before and it really provides excellent precision in application.

PERFORMANCE
Although initially I thought this was an oil tint, it's actually a honey "tint". I put "tint" in quotations because it really does not tint. However, that's the only disappointing thing about this product! Upon application, it gave my lips a slight warming feeling and a gloss of colour. The consistency of the treatment is just like honey but without being overly sticky. I can really feel the moisture sinking in. The thickness of this treatment allows the product to adhere to my lips better. While it was on, the colour didn't intensify but remained the soft wash of pink with a lot of shine. Within an hour, the super, pretty shine fades into a dimmer shine, and eventually within 2-3 hours, the shine wore off. However, my lips remain moisturized even when most of the product disappears because the honey had provided a barrier to keep moisture in. This is just what I expect from a treatment. Within 3-4 hours, the product is completely gone but my lips remained moisturized for another couple of hours.

If you're looking for a long lasting oil tint with nice pigmentation, this is not it. However, if you're looking for a lip treatment that looks natural, glossy, and beautiful while providing suppleness to your lips, this is it!

BEFORE
(My top lip looks a bit full here because I accidentally, slightly busted it by dropping my iPad on my face that morning - D'OH!)

AFTER

Overall, I'm really impress with this product. Even on days when I'm not going out, I like to put this on because it really makes my lips feel good - dare I say this makes my lips feel softer than my lip balm? If I wasn't so terrified of corals making my skin look shallow, I'd even go for Orange in Honey.

[REVIEW] Innisfree Jelly Tint #3 Orchid Lavender and #4 Sour Grapefruit

Sunday, February 28, 2016
One of the main reviews I started blogging was to provide useful information to shoppers and beauty enthusiasts out there. As someone who rarely buys anything cosmetics without reading about it first, it's only right that I contribute back to this community.  As a beauty blogger, writing reviews on products is something I love, love, love doing. However, there are quite a few occasions where I have to bring myself to write honest, bad reviews on things I didn't enjoy and this is one of those products.

I'm the type of person who will apply on makeup and not look in the mirror for the next 5 hours. Now do you see why I need smudge proof liner and lasting lip products? I cannot be trusted nor have the patience to deal with things that are high maintenance. This is why I avoid bold lipsticks. However, bold lip tints that lock and stay in place? I need those. Lip tints are probably one of my favourite types of makeup. Today, I am reviewing the Innisfree Jelly tints. I must be on a lippie kick these days because I'm accumulating more lip products than I can ever use. These guys come in tiny sizes of 3ml for 6 000 Won (around $6 USD).

The two colours I picked up are #3 Orchid Lavender and #4 Sour Grapefruit.

#3 Orchid Lavender - this isn't very pigmented and wears better as a gloss with a slight bit of colour

#4 Sour Grapefruit - this is much more pigmented and opaque than #3. It's a very warm, wearable red.

If you look closely, the shimmers in #4 (top) are very visible. #3 (bottom) swatches like it's got a bit of colour but on girls with pigmented lips, it's not really going to show up at all.

TEXTURE
These have a very slippery liquid thin feel to them. It spreads easily because of it's liquid consistency and doesn't tug nor patch up.

SCENT
Fake, lemony dishwasher soap scent.

PERFORMANCE
The performance of this product varies from colour to colour. #3 was very light, not opaque and definitely did not leave any tint behind. #4 was more opaque, more difficult to control and the shimmers it left behind was much more visible. For tints, these certainly don't last very long. I'd say it's on for around 2-3 hours before disappearing. They rubbed off easily onto cups.  Both colours had the same slick, slippery feel and the over powering lemon dishwasher soap scent. While these were on, they felt pretty moisturizing and nice. However the moisture doesn't sink into the lips and when they wore off, my lips felt a tad dry.

I like to use #3 when I just need a quick gloss of colour because that's what it reminds me of - a light slick gloss with just a teeny hint of colour. The gloss doesn't make my lips look greasy nor oily, just shiny. #4 isn't really my colour because of it's warmth so I don't reach of it often. Not to mention, I'm not fond of the very visible shimmer it leaves behind when the gloss wears off. It just looks like I've got glittery bits on dry lips.

OVERALL
I don't usually dislike Innisfree products but I'd say give these a skip. They're not long-lasting, moisturizing, nor pigmented. The pigmentation, performance of the colours differ from colour to colour so it's rather unpredictable. There are tons of tints out in the market that are better.

[REVIEW] Missha The Style Long Wear Cushion Lip Crayon Dolly Coral

Monday, November 30, 2015

Missha is one of those brands where I tend to experience the most hits and misses with. Although I usually really like their packaging and the concept of their products, the actually quality and performance of the products either works really well with me or it does not. They also have different things under different lines, for example their Signature line is much more expensive than The Style line.

CLAIM
"Bold, vivid colors for beautifully defined lips.
Long-lasting crayon on one end and soft cushion tip on the other end.
Cushion applicator provides smooth adherence with a natural smudge blending effect.
Fast and easy, multi-functioning smart makeup with the all-in-one lipstick + lip liner + cheek tint."

When they released the Long Wear Cushion Lip Crayons, I was truly intrigued with the pretty colours.  I like how none of the colours in this line overlap. They're all very distinctively different to each other even though they might not be unique.  The colour I gravitated towards the most is Dolly Coral.  I don't like to using testers in stores, so I really had to depend on the promotional material to gauge whether it would work for me.

The concept of the Long Wear Cushion Lip Crayon is really similar to that of Aritaum Wannabe Cushion Tints (reviewed here) - one end is the actual product, the other end is a cushion tip, and both products twist up. Both products allow the user to achieve a lip gradation. I'm personally not a fan of how that looks on my lips so I use it full on.

The size of the crayon is similar to the Clinique Chubby Pencils.

Twisted All The Way Up

I would describe this as a warm tone coral red that is very similar to but warmer than the VDL Cube Lipstick I reviewed in the past (reviewed here). The formulation is different though.

After seeing how pretty this looked on the model in the promotional pictures, I really wanted to like this pencil. However I have some issues with it. As a colour, it's indeed very beautiful but doesn't compliment my skin tone. It seems to bring out the yellowness in my skin. This isn't much of an issue because I'm sure it would suit other people better.

The biggest issue I have with it is the formulation.  Even after I have exfoliated and moisturized my lips, this product applies on very patchy. On dry lips, it sinks in the cracks and dries to a matte finish. On moisturized lips, it still catches onto ridges and patches up. If you use the crayon for gradational purposes, you can smooth out the patches with the cushion tip. Over blending will shift the colour around so it's not very easy to control.

The biggest merit for this crayon is its long lasting ability. One time, I had applied this crayon on in the afternoon and even after dinner I could still see the colour. It wasn't as fresh and vibrant as right after application but it had faded beautifully and the coral colouring was still there. It's quite amazing since I had oily fried chicken that night.

Overall, I would pass on this lip crayon. The color is beautiful (just not flattering on me) and it's long wearing but I found this product hard to control.  Missha makes many wonderful products that I do like but this was just not one of them and I don't see myself reaching for it.

I first saw this product one day as I was leaving HomePlus (HomePlus is a Korean supermarket - they have some Korean beauty stores - like Tony Moly and Missha -  near the entrance /exits). Missha had set up a display with three different sets of colours - Lotta Orange, Lotta Coral, and Lotta Pink. This gloss belongs to the Lotta Coral family which also includes a lipstick, eyeshadows, and some nail colors.

Missha's Signature line packaging always manages to capture my attention with it's beautiful and sophicated looks.  It's the type of packaging that I wouldn't mind buying collections of (if I had the money) and displaying  them on my vanity and just admire and sigh over them all day long.

The tilted applicator is pretty standard. It holds onto the product well enough for the application process to be mess free and non-streaky. It applies on with a bit of resistance but it doesn't feel too thick nor too streaky.

I've never been a gloss fan but I was so drawn to the swatch color of this product that I made an impulse buy. It's a corally pink color that looks beautiful swatched across the back of my hand. As someone who is used to wearing brights, this soft corally pink color is a very toned down color for me. I've been trying to get into nudes and I still haven't found the perfect one. For the time being, this is as "nude" as I'm getting.

As you can see, the gloss is not the super shiny-in-your-face type. It's more subtle and soft and this makes it wearable throughout the day. This color is rather forgiving should you apply it without a mirror because it doesn't accentuate dry areas and even when applied out of the lip lines, it makes the lips look plump rather than messy.  Even when it wears off, it comes off evenly so you don't have to worry about random patches or lines left behind.

Although it claims to be long lasting, I found the lasting time to be pretty average (around 2-3 hours or pretty much wiped out after eating) on my lips. However, it meets it's claims in comfort because it's  moisturizing but not sticky despite a definite cling on the lips.

Overall,  I really like this product. It is a really pretty gloss housed in beautiful packaging and it does all the things a gloss should.

[REVIEW] NYX Butter Gloss (Vanilla Cream Pie (BLG09) and Peaches and Cream (BLG 03))

Wednesday, July 8, 2015
"Butter me up with divine gloss that feels like it melts on lips."

Claims: "Buttery soft and silky smooth our scrumptious new Butter Lip Gloss tastes as sweet as a sugar cookie—and makes your lips look downright luscious. Swipe it on alone or over your favorite lipstick for creamy sheer to medium coverage that melts onto your lips and is never sticky." - source: NYX Website

NYX’s Butter glosses have been around for a while but I’ve just recently discovered the right colors for myself and I freaking love them. They take me by surprise because I’m not really a gloss girl but these have me converted.

They come in a wide variety of colors.  I originally tried this product in Merengue and I remember really disliking it – mainly because the color was unsuitable for me and also because the consistency was thinner and thus applied patchier than the two recent ones I’ve purchased. This time I chose Vanilla Cream Pie and Peaches and Cream and it’s these two colors that I will be reviewing today.

These butter glosses are so convenient to carry around because they are moisturizing enough to replace my lip balm and pigmented enough to act as a lip color. I have no problem applying these on dry lips and they hide rather than accentuate dry spots on my lips. They really do melt onto the lips like butter and they feel light on the lips as well.

At around $5 USD, they’re very affordable. Although I purchased mine at full price, they often go on sale at Buy 1 Get 1 Half Off at Ulta.

The applicator is slanted at the base which allows for precise application on the lips.

On my lips, they last about 3 to 4 hours (without eating) - which is decent staying time for a gloss. It’s definitely not a watery gloss. I feel like they have a base that really attaches itself on the lips and this is what keeps it on. Needless to say, it won’t be completely removed with a napkin.

These are scented. They have a very sweet, sugary frosting scent. Unless you are very sensitive to scents, I don’t think you need to worry too much about it.  Personally I find the scent quite pleasant and after a few minutes I don’t even notice it anymore.

Vanilla Cream Pie is described as mauve on the website and correctly so. It has fair colour payoff but the consistency is lighter than Peaches and Cream.

Peaches and Cream is described as a pink coral.

BLG 09 Vanilla Cream Pie

BLG 03 Peaches and Cream

Overall, I recommend checking these out. Since there is a wide color selection, I believe everyone can find a color that is suited for them. Of the two, Peaches and Cream is definitely my favorite because the color is more flattering on me and the consistency is a bit thicker. Lighter colours tend to be more watery than the darker colors.

If you check these out, please make sure to let me know what you think!

Thanks for reading :)
