[REVIEW] NYX LIP LINGERIE: 08 BEDTIME FLIRT

Sunday, September 4, 2016
Liquid lipsticks are in and the NYX Lip Lingeries have been all over YouTube for the past six months. I wasn't that interested in it until a fellow makeup enthusiast told me how much she can't wait for Canada to have them. Just like that, I noticed they were stocked at Shoppers Drugmart. Shoppers has the full 12 shades priced at $10.49 CAD. By the time, I saw them, a lot of the colours were already picked up leaving a few shades left. It was actually quite hard deciding which colour to chose as the promotional pictures don't really do a good job in showing how the colour actually is. A lot of the colours look incredibly similar in the tube. Let's just say I stood in the makeup isle for  quite a few minutes puzzled about which colour to get.

In the end, I grabbed 08 Bedtime Flirt because I liked the name. It's cheeky and reminds me of Charlotte Tilbury's Pillow talk. In case you don't know me, I'm quite light with a cool undertone. Pinky nudes that are two shades darker than my skin tone works best for me while anything peachy, or peachy brown tends to make my skin look shallow and washes me out.

COLOUR
It's really hard to describe Bedtime Flirt as it seems to look a bit different depending on the lighting.  Every shade in this line seems to have a bit of a greyish base but Bedtime Flirt has just enough pinky brown nude to work for me. The best way to describe it is that it's a medium tone pinky brown with a grey base. On my lips, it's just a tad nudier than my natural lip colour so it's perfect for me. I'd say that this looks best in natural lighting. In florescent lighting, like bathrooms, this looks downright grey for some strange reason! It's like the yellow lighting sucks out the pink tones.  If you really can't decide on a shade, regardless of your skin tone, Bedtime Flirt is probably your best bet.

I love how it makes my lips look flirty and pouty.

PACKAGING
Many people complain that the wand is too long and not flexible enough to apply the product on well. Personally, I didn't have an issue with either. My hands aren't the most stable but I was able to apply this in one go. If the applicator is anymore flexible, it would just be a mess. With the current shape of the wand, I am able to apply the edges decently.

CONSISTENCY and PERFORMANCE
The consistency is really light and mousse-like wet but it dries down completely matte and when it does, the vibrancy tones down as well so it's not as dark as it looks in the tube. The odd thing is that once it dried, my lips felt sticky whenever I pressed them together. Nothing patched off but it's just so unexpected to feel that tacky sensation! With one layer I was able to cover my lips entirely but I like to go over it again just to make sure everything is covered. Also, once it dries, it does not transfer.  Without food, I did find this product to last really well. It didn't smudge or budge the whole day. It also felt really comfortable on my lips for the most part. After a few hours it was a bit drying but nothing overwhelming. I really appreciate how this product didn't cling onto any patchy areas of my lips too.

This liquid lipstick only seems to rub off when it comes into contact with oil - like from a lip balm, fries, or greasy food. Once the oil rubs into the lipstick, it will wear off easily so a reapplication is necessary after eating. To remove this, you just need a oil based makeup remover. It will come right off!

*Edit* I've just tried the Sephora Collection Cream Stains in the colour Marvellous Mauve. Everyone has been raving about these saying that they last all day long while being comfortable. I have to say, I really, really like Nyx's Lip Lingerie formula better, at least in the way that they've made Bedtime Flirt. Separate review will be coming soon.
OVERALL
Will I get any more colours in this line? I have my eyes on Exotic, a brick red, and Lace Trim, a light pinky nude. I don't think that it's necessary to get one in every colour since some of the lighter colours look similar. As this line caters to a wide range of skin tones, I would just recommend purchasing the ones that you think will work with your skin tone.

[REVIEW] NYX Butter Gloss (Vanilla Cream Pie (BLG09) and Peaches and Cream (BLG 03))

Wednesday, July 8, 2015
"Butter me up with divine gloss that feels like it melts on lips."

Claims: "Buttery soft and silky smooth our scrumptious new Butter Lip Gloss tastes as sweet as a sugar cookie—and makes your lips look downright luscious. Swipe it on alone or over your favorite lipstick for creamy sheer to medium coverage that melts onto your lips and is never sticky." - source: NYX Website

NYX’s Butter glosses have been around for a while but I’ve just recently discovered the right colors for myself and I freaking love them. They take me by surprise because I’m not really a gloss girl but these have me converted.

They come in a wide variety of colors.  I originally tried this product in Merengue and I remember really disliking it – mainly because the color was unsuitable for me and also because the consistency was thinner and thus applied patchier than the two recent ones I’ve purchased. This time I chose Vanilla Cream Pie and Peaches and Cream and it’s these two colors that I will be reviewing today.

These butter glosses are so convenient to carry around because they are moisturizing enough to replace my lip balm and pigmented enough to act as a lip color. I have no problem applying these on dry lips and they hide rather than accentuate dry spots on my lips. They really do melt onto the lips like butter and they feel light on the lips as well.

At around $5 USD, they’re very affordable. Although I purchased mine at full price, they often go on sale at Buy 1 Get 1 Half Off at Ulta.

The applicator is slanted at the base which allows for precise application on the lips.

On my lips, they last about 3 to 4 hours (without eating) - which is decent staying time for a gloss. It’s definitely not a watery gloss. I feel like they have a base that really attaches itself on the lips and this is what keeps it on. Needless to say, it won’t be completely removed with a napkin.

These are scented. They have a very sweet, sugary frosting scent. Unless you are very sensitive to scents, I don’t think you need to worry too much about it.  Personally I find the scent quite pleasant and after a few minutes I don’t even notice it anymore.

Vanilla Cream Pie is described as mauve on the website and correctly so. It has fair colour payoff but the consistency is lighter than Peaches and Cream.

Peaches and Cream is described as a pink coral.

BLG 09 Vanilla Cream Pie

BLG 03 Peaches and Cream

Overall, I recommend checking these out. Since there is a wide color selection, I believe everyone can find a color that is suited for them. Of the two, Peaches and Cream is definitely my favorite because the color is more flattering on me and the consistency is a bit thicker. Lighter colours tend to be more watery than the darker colors.

If you check these out, please make sure to let me know what you think!

Thanks for reading :)

Korean Cosmetics Haul: Nature Republic, The Face Shop, Innisfree

Sunday, February 2, 2014

When makeup brands have sales, it's usually around the same time. It's like a huge competition for them and it makes my wallet a whole lot lighter. So when Nature Day happened at the same time as the The Face Shop and NYX happened to be on 70% off clearance (which makes it the same price as you would get it in the States. NYX is ridicolously marked up here) I had to pick some stuff up.

Mise En Scene 3NT DARK CHOCO HELLO! BUBBLE FOAM COLOR - I've used this before.  It's really easy to use and the color goes on evenly and lasts for a long time. It comes with a color packet, container, pump, plastic gloves, plastic cape, hair mask pack, and essence oil.

2x Nature Republic Forest Garden Chamomile Cleansing Oil: This had the Get It Beauty sticker on it and the sales assistent said it is soothing for skin. I've been waiting for Nature Day to get this as I have just ran out of my Shu Uermura Ultim8.

The Face Shop Lovely me:ex blusher in #5 Pink Affair - it was just too cute to pass up. The color shows up as a slightly cool-tone pink.

Nature Republic Angel Lip Balm in #01 Peach Tint Balm and #02 Cranberry Tint Balm - What a lovely name. Nature Republic always gets me with their sweet names. I bought #2 first because it was the only color the store had. After putting it on, I got so many compliments on my lips that I went for a hunt in Myeongdong for the more natural #01 Peach Tint Balm. They leave an awesome long lasting stain on the lips and feels quite moisturizing. Simply amazing.

Nature Republic Botanical Stick Highlighter - This was a total impulse buy. I swatched it on my hands, it gave a nice glow and it blends really well.

Innisfree Melting BB Cushion Refill: I'm not sure if this will fit into my Hera Air Cushion case (it doesn't) but its worth the try. I'm tired of having cases everywhere. I've heard many good things about this BB Cushion and I can't wait to try it.

NYX Butter Gloss in Creme Brulee - I wanted to like this color but nudes just don't go well with my fair skin at all.
