[Review & Dupe Alert] Banila Co Style Eyeliner in Deep Black. Dupe for Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On in Perversion

Sunday, October 11, 2015

Banila Co. is one of my favorite brands in Korea. They are well known for their amazing primers like Its Shiny primer and their cleansing balms like Clean It Zero (reviewed here). Their prices fall in the mid range – more expensive than the average road shop but not as expensive as department stores (although you can find Banila Co at some department stores – but it’s likely that it’s on the women’s fashion floor rather than on the first floor with all the other cosmetic brands like Sum37 and Hera).

Today, I will be reviewing one of their eyeliners: Style Eye Love Eyeliner Pencil Deep Black.

Claims
·      Easy drawing
·      Water-proof
·      Longwearing
·      Smudge-proof

Banila Co Style Eye Love Eyeliner is a traditional pencil liner that has intense pigmentation and dries to a matte finish.

How does it perform?
I had a lot of expectations from this liner as it’s from Banila Co. It’s richly intense and easily one of the darkest blacks in my collection. It’s also really smooth.  However, here is a problem. The pencil is so smooth and buttery that it’s hard to get a sharp thin line. The tip gets blunt easily and the pencil needs to be sharpened regularly - even then, it's still hard to get a sharp tip. It does not twist up.

With one stroke, you can get a very dark black line which dries down to a matte finish. My eyelids are really oily and tends to smudge most eyeliners. This one smudges on me. I notice, the liner transferring onto my bottom lid within three hours. Because of that, I wouldn't say it's smudge proof nor long wearing on me. When I swatched this on my arm however, I notice that it was budge proof  so perhaps if your eye area isn't really oily at all, this will have a better staying power on you. I've tested this liner under running water, and it's true to it's waterproof claim.

The biggest problem of all? It gets on my contacts! This is a big issue because, once it gets onto my contacts, my vision gets all blurry to the point where I can’t really see and I have to wash my contacts. I wore this out one day to a park and every half hour, I had to wash my contacts. This has never happened to me before so I was both confused and annoyed. Contact lens wearers, you’ve been warned. I always use black liner for the upper waterline and the top lid. I've never had this problem before. Perhaps if you don't line your waterline, you can avoid this problem.

The consistency of this eyeliner really reminds me of the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils Upon comparison, I've found that they perform exactly. This is an exact dupe if not even the same product just in different packaging.

Here are the similarities between the Banila Co’s Deep Black vs. Urban Decay in Perversion.

  • They are both intense black liners that glide and melt on the lids.
  • Both pencil liners that need to be sharpen regularly
  • They have the same wet surface when first used and dry to the same matte look
  • They flake the same way and at the same time
  • When being removed, they both have the same dark ivy green base
  • Wear time, water-proof, smudging is exactly the same
  • Both are Made in Germany
  • Both shrink away from the wooden part of the pencil
  • Both can get onto contacts and create blurry parts. I've personally experienced this with the Banila Co. I haven't worn the UD Perversion with contacts so I can't say for that one from personal experience. However, reviewers on RedditAmazon, and Sephora have mentioned that UD Perversion creates blurry spots on their contact lenses as well.

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On retails for $20 USD for 0.04oz on Sephora.
Banila Co. Style Eye Love Liner retails for 14 000 Won (around $14 USD) for 0.04oz in stores and $18.60 on Amazon.

I haven't actually discovered anything different about them besides the packaging.

BC = Banila Co - the top line is purely with Banila Co Eye Love
UD = Urban Decay - the bottom line is purely with Urban Decay Perversion

I rubbed the swatches about 15minutes after they were applied. Both didn't really budge but I did notice a bit of greenish shadow coming off. Neither of these pencil liners have glitter in them. The random glitter must've been from my hand.

Overall, I would not repurchase either of the liners. I've had pretty good results most Banila Co items, including their gel liners in the pot form, but this Style Eye Love Eyeliner just didn't. I am used to products smudging on me but getting onto my contacts and blurring my vision? I just can't deal with that. It's also pricey compared to other Korean eyeliners that have worked better for me - like The Face Shop Make Me Star Waterproof Gel Liners (around $7 USD).

Current Skincare Routine (Mostly Korean Products)

Thursday, May 14, 2015
Hi everyone! Today, I'd like to share with you the products that I use almost everyday as part of my skincare routine. These products are mostly Korean skincare products that I've purchased while I was in Korea and they work well for me.

CLEANSING

1. MISSHA Green Tea Eye and Lip Makeup Remover (reviewed here)
2. Banila Co Clean It Zero (reviewed here)
3. Mamonde Lotus Micro Mild Foam - this is a really gentle cleanser that I like to use as a second
step. It foams up just a little and it's not really all that strong.

SERUM AND EMULSION

1. Hanyul Optimizing Serum (review coming soon)
2. Hanyul Rice Essential Skin Emulsion (review coming soon)

Normally, I like to use a toner after cleansing my skin. However, at the moment I'm out it. If you guys have any recommendations, please leave it in the comments section :)

 OIL AND SKIN CREAM

1. Physician's Formula Argan Oil (Night Usage Only) - I've been really enjoying this argan oil. I see a noticeable softness and hydration in my skin after applying it on the night before.
2. Iope Ultimate Hydro Cream (review coming soon) - this is a really light weight gel like cream that provides amazing hydration even in the coldest and driest of winters.

SLEEPING MASK

Sulwhasoo Overnight Vitalizing Mask (review coming soon) - I like to use this on days when my skin feels a bit beaten up.

EYE CREAM

Innisfree Eco Science Eye Cream - yes, I'm still using this product. I've lost count of the number of times I've repurchased this. I adore it and I've yet to find a replacement. (Reviewed here).

[REVIEW] Banila Co. Clean It Zero (Original)

Monday, May 11, 2015
Hello everyone, today I'm back with a review of a product that I've been enjoying quite a lot recently. It's a pretty popular item so I'm sure you have heard of it before. It's the Banila Co. Clean It Zero (Original - in the pink jar)!  They have four different variations - Original, Radiance, Purity and Reservatrol.

Banila Co. products are usually a bit more expensive than other Korean road shop products but so far, I've really enjoyed everything I got from there!

In the past, I've always used a cleansing oil to remove my makeup but after hearing all the hype about this item, I knew I had to give it a try.

Clean It Zero is a sherbet like makeup remover. It comes in a jar as a solid. Although they normally come in the 100ml per jar, I've purchased the largest size of 180ml. I think this is only available for the original version.   I'm very glad that they've also included a plastic separator and a little scooper. These things make it more hygienic and convenient to use.

Although it is in a solid form at first, it actually starts to melt and become and oily liquid when I massage it onto my face.  Now I can fully appreciate the little plastic scooper. If I were to just dip my finger in and scoop it out, I'm sure the product would look like a hot mess after a while.

The consistency of the product is pretty light weight. I can easily massage it around onto my face with tugging. I usually use this to remove my face make up and it does the jobs quickly and easily! It removes foundation, blush, and lipstick really fast. I don't like to use this on my eye makeup though as I find that I tend to get this product into my eyes and it my eyes get blurry. It also doesn't remove waterproof mascara as my Missha Eye and Lip Remover but I'm okay with that!

Once I'm done massaging this product around my face, I splash my face with water. The product becomes a milky consistency and all my face makeup comes off easily. It makes my skin feel really soft without adding any oiliness to it. It doesn't feel as if my skin has been striped of its moisture nor does it feel like it has a layer of oil. It just feels clean.

I usually follow up with a foam cleanser and a toner just to make sure my skin is perfectly clean.

It also has zero fragrance.

Demonstration

On: 2 lip tints, Stila Waterproof Eyeliner, Aritaum Wannabe Shadowstick.
As you can see, the product is like coconut oil and solid at room temperature.

Once I start rubbing the product, it starts to liquify. It starts to dissolve the all the makeup except for the eyeliner.

After splashing it with water, the product emulsifies.
After the product is all rinsed off, most of the makeup has been removed. You can still see the trace of the eyeliner, which is why I don't like using this product for my eye makeup.

Overall, I recommend this product and I can see why so many people love it!

February Favorites!

Monday, March 3, 2014

Skincare Products:

Skinfood Black Sugar Perfect First Serum Gold: I've used this before. Both times, I've seen immediate results. Highly recommend! A review will be coming up soon!

Tony Moly Mini Peach Lip Balm: My all time favorite lip balm. I put this on at night and by day its still on my lips.

Etude House Wonder Pore Freshner: I don't really use this for my pores. I use this for itchy skin. It's amazing. The winter has been so cold and dry that my arms and legs have developd rashes and itches. After spraying this on, the rashes go away really quickly.

Innisfree Apple Juicy lip & eye remover: This is an excellent waterproof makeup remover. It doesn't sting nor blur my eyes but gets all the makeup off without tugging.

Banila Co. The Black 17 Sleeping Pack: Definitely a must in the winter to seal in my skincare. My skin feels so much softer and moisturized in the morning.

Cosmetic Products:

Nature Republic Angel Lip Balms: Makes my lips look nice while still giving moisture and color.

Aritaum World Glam Coating Tint in Seoul: Perfect redish color. It doesn't feel drying at all.

Hera UV Mist Cushion: I didn't like this in the summer because sweat and humidity really lifts it up from the skin. However, during the dry winter it is perfect - moisturizing and hassle free.

Majorica Majolica Lash Bone Mascara Base: A long time favorite. It makes my eyelashes more define and noticeable.

Hair Products:

Ryeo Hair Essense: When I'm too busy to use the Skinfood Argan Oil Hair Pack, I use this after I wash and blow dry my hair. It definitely makes my hair feel silky.

PSSSST Dry Shampoo: Best dry shampoo I've tried. It soaks up the oil and volumizes my hair really easily. Definitely a keeper.

Body Product:

The Body Shop Mango Shower Gel: This has to be my favorite scent in The Body Shop. Oddly, the shower gel doesn't smell like the body butter. If it did, I would've bought the whole line. The shower gel smells like sweet mango but it's not overwhelming.

Banila Co. The Black 17 Sleeping Pack Review

Tuesday, December 3, 2013

My first encounter with this product is through a sample pack. I've had the sample for the longest time but I never really had any high expectations of it. To me, Banila Co. is a brand well known for their eyeliners and their primers, it wasn't a skincare focus brand. However, one day as I was updating my bag of sample, I decided to pull this out and give it try.

IT WAS INCREDIBLE.

I tried to resist purchasing this because I already have three other sleeping packs that were not nearly finished, but eventually I caved in.

Ingredients:
Although the packaging doesn't have any formal English ingredients list, it did have this picture list of what the The Black 17 black food complex consist of:

Texture:
The product is like a thick jelly texture. It looks almost black in the tube but it's actually a clear deep indigo blue with white beads, which are suppose to be capsules of moisture. When I first tried this from the sample packet, I didn't actually feel any beads but when I tried the tube I felt the beads.... strange. Maybe they updated the formula over the timespan that I've had the sample (about a year). It feels a bit grainy at first but then it disappears.

A close up

Spread Out

Performance:

The product should be easily spread on the face. It feels slightly cool and hydrating. Not sticky at all, just like a layer of gel. It absorbs quite quickly. When you wake up in the morning, you definitely feel no residue left on your face nor see any on the pillow.

I notice that my skin looks brighter, firmer, and more hydrated.

I'm not sure if it's because of the 17 food complex but whatever it is, it definitely helped my skin especially when I'm stressed.

What I Love About It:
- inexpensive for a Banila Co. product: it is 14 000Won - the same cost as their Eyelove Eyeliner
- keeps my skin hydrated through the night
- makes my skin look brighter
- absorbs easily and leaves no noticeable residue on my pillow

What I Don't Love About It:
- although there is a ingredients list in pictures on the box, there's no actual ingredient list mentioned in English.

Score: A

Overall I love this product and would highly recommend it. It's gives so much hydration and keeps the skin looking bright and bouncy. I would rank it as my second favorite sleeping pack after Innisfree Canola Honey Sleeping Pack. It would be nice to see a full list of ingredients in English though.
